The existing property was a 3 bedroom chalet bungalow, built in the 1920s, set on the hillside overlooking the English Channel in St Margaret’s Bay. Our brief was to demolish the existing garage and to enlarge the available plot by excavating further into the hillside and providing retaining walls. The property was then extended on a large scale to maintain the existing chalet bungalow style with new doors and windows throughout. The new extension incorporates a new integral garage capable of housing classic cars, a utility room, a pantry and a large open planned kitchen/diner looking out over the garden through Crittall French doors along with internal Crittall screening leading into the snug and hallway. Upstairs we have added 3 large bedrooms and 2 bathroom/en-suites styled and finished to an exceptional standard.
The existing property has been totally stripped out and a new layout installed, the existing staircase has been removed and a bespoke installed in the new extension to enlarge the existing living room and master bedroom. Upstairs in the existing house now includes the large master bedroom, dressing room and en-suite. The ground floor new layout now includes a study, ground floor bedroom and ensuite and a large open living area that leads onto the existing sunroom.
The entire property has been finished with sophisticated joinery by talented craftsmen, with a variety of impactful features from striking timber panelling to bespoke cabinetry, giving the property a high quality and professional edge.
In addition to this, the garden has been professionally redesigned by a ‘Chelsea Award’ winning designer and landscaped to include a natural swimming pool and a mixture of formal and wild meadow soft landscaped areas. The different gardens all link up with a combination of porcelain slabbed terraces, paved paths and large oak decking sitting area that cantilevers over the natural pool. The redesign of the garden also includes a resin bound driveway, utility areas and an outside snug. The garden is then maintained using a zoned irrigation system fed from large rainwater harvesting tanks, and the entire garden is lit up at night with a large complex lighting scheme which will also be zoned and remotely set up and controlled using Lutron.
